Tullio Solenghi in “I MANEGGI PER MARITARE UNA FIGLIA (The tricks for marrying your daughter)”
One still laughs, and a lot, at the creations of the gruff Gilberto Govi. Tullio Solenghi, who has decided to repropose one of the Genoese genius’ best-known comedies, knows this well:
I maneggi per maritare una figlia, written by Niccolò Bacigalupo. Solenghi, flanked by an excellent cast in which Elisabetta Pozzi stands out, ‘takes possession’ of Govi as if he were one of the masks from the history of comic theatre: a Harlequin, a Zanni, or a Charlot, a Totò.
“It was immediately clear to me that I was in front of a ‘mask’ of the play,’ says Tullio Solenghi, ‘and just as I would not be embarrassed to reproduce a Harlequin, I meekly stepped into Gilberto Govi’s shoes and mimicry, assimilating every fragment, every syllable.
